Crystals are a group of minerals that are said to have healing powers when we touch them. Crystals are believed to emit positive, uplifting, energizing and calming vibrations that help heal the mind and body.

Each crystal is unique and has a different effect on the mind and body. The vibrations from crystals are said to come from the unique way each crystal's atoms and molecules move and interact. The vibrations and energies are then said to affect our mind and bodies in a positive way.

Crystals have been used for thousands of years for healing, protection, illnesses, energy and medicine. Today, many people believe in the power of crystals and giving a crystal gift is a beautiful way to show someone you care. Crystals and stones make a powerful gift for a friend, partner, family member or loved one, as they reflect the knowledge you have about that person and what they need or require in their life, and what is important to them. Helen Beatrix Potter was an English writer, illustrator, natural scientist and conservationist; who was best known for her children's books featuring animals, particularly for The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Born in 1866, Helen Beatrix Potter created the much loved characters of Peter Rabbit, Jeremy Fisher, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle, Tom Kitten, Flopsy, Benjamin Bunny, Squirrel Nutkin, Mr Tod and more...

Beatrix Potter created tiny books, which she designed so that even the smallest children could hold them, using simple language that also held dry North Country humour, with illustrations in the best English watercolour tradition. The Peter Rabbit illustrations were all done by Beatrix Potter herself - and, even today, they are instantly recognisable and incredibly loved.

The adventures of Peter Rabbit and his friends were inspired by Beatrix Potter’s love of nature and are still to this day, much loved by children all over the world.

Educated at home, Beatrix taught herself to draw and paint by watching the household pets very carefully. But it wasn't until she was 27 that Beatrix wrote an illustrated letter about one of her pet rabbits to an ex-governess' little boy...

My dear Noel, I don't know what to write to you so I shall tell you a story about four little rabbits whose names were Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton‐tail and Peter.

Later, Beatrix tried to find a publisher for her Peter Rabbit story and illustrations - but the manuscript was turned down six times.
She decided to publish it herself, printing 250 copies. These sold so well that the publisher Frederick Warne made another offer.

By October 1902, The Tale of Peter Rabbit was a bestseller. Since then, it has never been out of print and has sold over 40 million copies worldwide. The book has come a long way since that early print-run of 250!

In the last 30 years, the World of Peter Rabbit was launched on TV (1992), in 2006 Miss Potter, the movie was released on the big screen, in 20212 the Peter Rabbit TV series was launched and in 2018 the Peter Rabbit movie was released followed by its sequel in 2021.

So what is it that we love so much about Peter Rabbit and his friends?

The Beatrix Potter stories are gentle and whimsical and Peter Rabbit himself is a cheeky, plucky character that we can’t help but love. Children and adults alike are drawn to animals, especially the Beatrix Potter characters as they are cute, unpredicatable, brave and witty. What’s more, the animals all wear clothes, live in houses and have human emotions. We can all relate to their stories and challenges and we all like to get up to a little mischief once in a while, just like the characters in Beatrix Potter’s books.

Finally, what’s more fun than a rabbit in a little blue coat with brass buttons, or a hedgehog in a pink dress and a frilly bed cap or a duck with a blue bonnet and pink cape? Beatrix Potter lovingly created all of her characters, and it is that love and the magic of her imagination that endures today.

2022 is a birthday celebration for Peter Rabbit! This year marks 120 years since the Tale of Peter Rabbit was first officially published. The timeless tales of Beatrix Potter are still as popular today as they were back then and we are delighted to share the magical world of Beatrix Potter with you with a beautiful range of garden decorations.

Christmas gnomes have made a big splash again this year and come in many forms from gnome LED lights, gnome bowls, gnome figurines and hanging ornaments. As it turns out, Christmas gnomes actually come to us from a Scandinavian tradition.

nisse (gnome) is a mythological creature from Nordic folklore today typically associated with the Christmas season. They are generally described as being short, having a long white beard, and wearing a conical or knit cap in grey, red or any bright colour. They often have an appearance somewhat similar to that of a common garden gnome, although they usually have their eyes covered with their cap. Although small in stature, gnomes are said to have great strength and are great protectors but can also be a little bit mischievious.

We have always known and loved the elves who live and work at the North Pole with Santa but unlike the elves, the Christmas gnomes are said to pop out from forest niches on Christmas Day and walk to the front door of homes to hand deliver presents. Children leave a bowl of porridge out for the Christmas gnomes, and in return, they brings presents to their front door.

The Christmas gnomes do bear quite a resemblance to traditional Santa so they are becoming increasingly popular each year at Christmas time. Not only do they resemble Santa but they are just very, very cute as well.

Gnomes are also said to bring us good luck, happiness, warmth and a little bit of magic! Gnomes guard homes and protect the people within the home from any misfortune. Legend says, that you need to be nice to them so they are nice back.

We have got a great range of gnome Christmas items available on the website right now....from gnome trinket dishes, to gnome LED lights, gnome signs and soft, plush gnomes. We also have a super cute range of gnome pot sitters for your pot plants. These are not only cute but the gnomes are said to bring good luck and stimulate healthy plant growth, so these are perfect for any gardener!

Add a gnome or two to your home this Christmas season or perhaps surprise a friend or loved one with a gnome gift.

Why we love the colour mint?

We’ve seen a huge surge in popularity in all things mint in the last year or so.. so why do we love this colour so much?

Well, mint is a calming and peaceful colour which can have a therapeutic effect in home décor. It can instantly freshen up a room and add cheer and lightness.

Mint is a versatile hue that can be mixed with a tonne of other colours. Even some shades you would not expect to work, can look great with mint green. It is pretty easy to decorate with mint green because it does pair so well with other colours, in just about any room.

Mint itself has many hues. There are light and dark mint tones, more pastel tones or bolder shades of mint. Mint is often confused with aqua, teal or turquoise too. Teal is a darker blue-green, turquoise is more blue than green, aqua is a softer blue-green and mint has much more green than any of these! Confused?! At the end of the day, just pick tones that you like – it doesn’t really matter what the actual colour is called!

What colours can you mix with mint?

Blush & MintMint looks great combined with white for a relaxed, comfortable style. It has a summery feel that is fresh and inviting. It is a crisp, clean combo.

Mint is also marvellous with blush pink. The cool tones of mint mixed with the warmth of blush create a lovely colour clash.

Now grey and mint are also a gorgeous combo – we absolutely love grey and have used it throughout our own home as a base colour. If you want to soften the look, use lighter greys rather than darker shades.

For a slightly edgy look, mix mint with black. This will create a more sophisticated, rather than relaxed look.

Mint is also great with copper, rose gold and gold décor items and fixtures and fittings. Although mint can work with silver/chrome, the coppers and golds give it a much warmer look. You wouldn’t think so, but mint always pairs well with coral or reds. The reds and corals add an energy to the look and you end up with a fresh and energised colour palette. If you’re looking to add a bit of fruity punch to a room, add mint with another bright colour such as coral or orange. Mint and aqua tones also work well together and create a fun look for any room.

Will mint stick around?

Although mint is very on trend right now, it is safe to say it will be around for a long time to come. It is always a lovely colour that will never go out of style. If you’re nervous about adding mint to your home, start off with a few cushions or a few small décor items. Besides, you should always choose colours and styles that you love, who cares about the trends!

]]>
So just how many cushions do you need on the couch?

Well, the answer here firstly depends if you are a male or a female. Ask a male and they will tell you either none or one plain, comfy cushion (no patterns, fur, texture, metallic, beads etc) that is purely there to rest your head on i.e. no decorative value whatsoever. Ask a female and you are likely to get a very different answer! I cannot tell you how many times my husband has questioned how many cushions are on the couch or complained that there is no room to sit with all the cushions. He is also particularly averse to cushions that are furry or fluffy, or have any type of beaded or tassel detail to them.

But now isn’t the time for us to go into details explaining the differences between males and females so we’re just going to assume that if you’re reading on further, chances are, you are female so we’ll continue on from the female angle.

So back to the big question..how many cushions are too many, or how many cushions are not enough? There are so many different answers to this question and at the end of the day, as with all home decorating decisions, it comes down to your own taste. After all, you are the one that has to live there. But on saying that, if you are looking for some ideas on arrangements that seem to work or just want some inspiration, here are a few ratios:

    • The 2:2:1 ratio – start with placing the two largest cushions on either end of the couch resting against the arm. Tip: Always start from the outside of the couch and work your way in when arranging cushions. Then place the next two largest cushions, one on each side, overlapping the outer cushions (not in front of, but overlapping). Finally, take the smaller single accent cushion and place it in the centre (the cushions should all be overlapping each other so that there is no empty space on the couch). If your couch is a bit longer, another option is to go 2:2:2 so there are two smaller accent cushions in the middle.

    • The casual arrangement – for a more relaxed vibe, try grouping cushions at one end of the couch, rather than using a symmetrical look on both ends of the couch. The casual looks usually works best in groups of odd numbers, so try 3 or 5, depending on the size of your couch. For a more formal look, even numbers of cushions can be used as this tends to look a bit more planned and organised.

  • In terms of actual numbers of cushions per couch, three or four are probably enough for a 2 seater couch while a larger three seater couch could hold five or six. However, once again, there are no hard and fast rules for arranging cushions. Experiment with your cushions to see what works best for your space and style. Mix and match sizes, textures, shapes and fabrics to add interest and dimension to the look.

Now, I am never one to walk away from purchasing a beautiful cushion, you could say I have a cushion addiction but really, there is no better way to liven up your living room or change the whole look and feel so easily, then by adding or replacing your cushions. So my husband and I will just have to continue to agree to disagree on the number of cushions on the couch, the type of cushions on the couch and how often I feel the strong urge to change them!! Let's not even get started here on what he thinks about the number of cushions on our bed....

https://mmturffarm.com/blogs/news/turquoise-the-perfect-colour 2017-05-16T22:10:00+08:00 2017-08-17T12:12:04+08:00 Turquoise - the perfect colour? Michelle Reynolds Turquoise is really a blue with yellow in it, giving it a blue/green tone. It is a colour that provides peace, calm and tranquillity with the blue in it, balance from the green and the uplifting properties of yellow. Perhaps this is why so many of us think it is the perfect colour! There are various shades of turquoise itself – sometimes light, sometimes darker or it may have more green or more yellow.

Adding turquoise homewares to your home is probably the easiest (and least expensive) way to bring this stunning colour into your space. The great thing about this vibrant colour is that it can be used all on its own or mixed so well with other colours within your décor. If you want to keep an earthy look, mix brown and turquoise homewares or dark brown, beige and turquoise to remind you of the earth, sand, ocean and sky. Choose to mix turquoise with vibrant colours such as red or orange for a daring but
eye catching look that can work really well together. Silver and turquoise is also a winning combination so mix and match homewares in these colours for an elegant and stylish look.

Turquoise is a versatile colour that works across all styles of decorating. From modern homewares to French country or traditional, this colour can be used but the key is to use it in a way that suits your personality and space.

The bathroom is a great place to add turquoise accessories to create a relaxed feeling and a beachy vibe. Think turquoise shells, starfish, candle holders, towels or soap dispensers.

Turquoise is also a great colour for your outdoor area to create a relaxed, bright summery feel all year round. Add turquoise cushions to your outdoor furniture, turquoise candle holders on your outdoor tables or hang turquoise lanterns from the alfresco ceiling.

Whatever way you decide to use this amazing colour, you are sure to find some beautiful turquoise homewares within our range to suit your style and budget.

Not to be confused with aqua, mint has more of a pastel hue and is now popping up everywhere in home decor items.

One of the great things about mint is that it can be paired with so many other colours. For example, if you have an all white look, a few pops of mint can add a splash of colour and freshness whilst still keeping a very clean look. An all white bedroom could add a soft, mint throw at the end of the bed and a patterned mint accent pillow.

Mint can also be teamed with pink either in pastel shades or bright, hot pinks. Mix mint in with other pastels for a soft, feminine look that will create a beautiful relaxed feel.

Mint is no longer just a colour for a nursery (when you don't know if you're having a boy or girl!) but a very popular decorating hue that can revitalise a room and really add a cool splash of personality.
